In the early 1970s, drummer Jeff Porcaro and keyboardist David Paych met at Grant High School in Vannaiz, California, and formed the group Rural Still Life. After graduating from Paci and Porcaro, their young band members, Steve Lucas, a guitarist, and Steve Porcaro, a keyboardist, continued their activities. Paich was the son of arranger Marty Paich.
